This is a great book that has both the basic theory and practical applications. It is great for someone wants to learn the basics and apply to different field. Also, it is easy to read, I read most of this book in coffee shops, no heavy math, just high level overviews.The first part of the book is on theory, it contains: introduction to signal, sampling, conversion between analogue and digital, Fourier transform, filters, and likelihood method. The style of the book is very friendly, easy to understand, and have lots of figures to illustrate the concept. From these theories, you can easily understand what is sampling bias, the method to deal with irregular sampling, what's the physical meaning of FFT, different type of filters etc.The best part of this book is the second half which shows you different applications to audio, images, videos, and communications. I found this is really interesting and useful, since you soon grab the essence of the concept you just learned from the first part, and know how they actually used in the real world. I am a student in seismology, so I also spend a lot of time dealing with seismic signals. The applications shown in this book actually inspired me to try some of the method/techniques used in other field to seismology.I think this book is great for getting the high level overviews of the key techniques in DSP. As other reviewers said, it is not a complete book about DSP. If you want to learn more, after this book, you can choose some of the classics, e.g. Understanding Digital Signal Processing by Richard G. Lyons.

Pages 24, 25, 29, 30, 32, 33, 36, 37, 316, 317, 320, 321, 324, 325 are blank, literally not printed. Page 167 has a folded corner which is incorrectly cut. The paper is news print, but possibly more flimsy than what we have in the US. The paper is a kind of off white grayish. This is a problem for reading the rather blurry text. Images and diagrams are important to the subject and not as clear as one would expect. With further inspection, the book was printed in New Delhi. I communicated privately with the seller who, after a day admitted he had no others to send me and could not anticipate a shipping schedule. People buy text books for a project or a course - delays are also a non-starter. Do not buy from this seller. Even a "one star" is generous for this experience.

In this book, you will learn concepts underlying image processing, sampling in the time domain, FFT to the frequency domain and back by synthesis. You will learn the basis of spread spectrum, Quadrature Amplitude Modulation (QAM) as well as traditional methods such as AM and FM. I could never understand Fourier transforms until I saw the pictures.

It is a wonderfully written book and with concepts presented in a very easy to understand style.No high level math required.

I love the looks of the images, and as an added bonus there are reference screen shots in the back! But the pages are thin and double sided, which is not a great combination. My biggest issue is that these are full page, border to border coloring pages but then cannot be removed from the book. Kinda ruined it for me.I like to color at work on my down time, but this book just doesn't really work for me. Which sucks because I really want it to.

Took this to kinkos had copies made of each page an made into a spiral bound coloring book didn't want to ruin the beautifully made coloring book! This is surely money well spent in my opinion!

This is such an awesome coloring book! I honestly expected about 10 pages of okay-ish art, but this is so detailed and it seems like there has to be at least 40 or 50 pages of unique coloring pages. There doesn't seem to be duplicates at all. I am already ordering another to send to my nephew! This is great for any fan of the game regardless if they like coloring or not.

A really interesting idea that generally succeeds. Heck of an undertaking. Really more of a history of fly tying than of fly fishing - though it does a pretty good job at that as well. The early European history is pretty good - but there are more complete histories. Of particular interest was the 1900's and the intermixing of European and North American ideas. Very much an English-speaking and trout-centric history. With the exception of a Polish woven nymph and the last fly, a Kebari fly from Japan, I think all the flies were English or North American in origin.I'd quibble at the some of the choices - but who wouldn't? No CDC flies. That seemed like an opportunity to include a French or Eastern European fly (like the F Fly). Parachutes - which I'd love to know more about the origin of - get a brief mention under the Adams.I've read a bit but am no expert on the history of fly fishing but I have to think there are many flies and much history from non-English speaking places that deserve more coverage.

A beautiful book with a knowledgeable history of fly fishing. I got this as a gift for my husband and I ended up reading through it and leave it on my coffee table because it is so pretty and makes a great talking point.

I read and have Marbury's book but it is very dated. I always desired to read a more up to date history. This book was answer to my prayers. Very well written and conceived. This should become a classic

If you are a fly tyer, this book is a must read for an introduction to the original tyer and the intended design of the fly. I enjoyed the book and learning about each pattern and its targeted use and waters.

Really well done. I can't say I learned a lot of new things, but then I've been reading about and collecting books on the history of fly fishing for 50 years. I'd recommend someone who wants to learn about the sport and its origins to start with this fine book. A lot of good information, extremely well presented.

I purchased this book for my son-in-law for Father's Day. He is an avid fly fisherman and I had hoped he would like it. When I gave it to him he looked through it very carefully. He was so pleased. He said he could hardly wait to read it. He even had a plan. He would read about one fly at a time. Some of the things he liked about the book were the organization of it, the many illustrations and the fact that it was very detailed. I , too, found the illustrations very interesting. The book was easy to read though it provided so much information. It is a book you can keep on the bedside table and pick it up and read a bit without having to start at the beginning and read from beginning to end. It is a good gift for someone who is a fly fisherman or aspires to be one.

You don't have to be NASCAR fan who's followed Dale Jr. The entire time he raced to love this book. He tells his story to you so you understand why he retired. I saw and witnessed the crashes, I was always so scared for him, hoping he'd be okay. If he stopped racing after his father passed no one would of blamed him, but he kept going. For the race world then himself. But to kept racing feeling so badly shows his love and passion for the sport. To bring awareness to head trauma so others can find help. As a avid horseback rider in my youth competing in barrel racing ,I took some nasty spills. I struggled in school a lot and makes me wonder if maybe that was the reason? Makes a lot sense now and luckily I don't have any lasting effects. But if I had gotten a proper exam then maybe my high school days wouldn't of been so rough? The book makes you really look back in life and go maybe if? The importance of not waiting, to get help and admit. This ain't right.Dale Jr. I have always been your fan and always will be. In or out the car your a class act. I'm proud to wear your number. Always will be. Happiness always.

This book is a humble and honest insight into the life of an individual who has likely carried more fan expectations than anyone in sports. There may be certain personal benefits in telling of certain events that had not previously been told but it is clear this is not the intent of this book. This book was way better than I expected. The layout is very well done, with easy to follow directions and pictures. The patterns range from easy to advanced and there's something in here for everyone! I definitely recommend this book to anyone interested in macrame. I LOVE IT! xx

Perfect for us old macramers who needed a refresher on the how to's. Easy to follow.

Transaction and product where perfect.

Beautiful book. The initial instructions all have photos, which help. There is also a QR code which gives a link to a video of one of the projects. I wish they had photos and QR codes for all projects instead of just a few, but I guess they figure once you master the basic projects you can figure out the complicated line drawing/patterns of the remaining projects. I made the plant hanger several times and taught it to a group of friends. Not sure if I could figure out the other projects. I also had a previous macrame class so I’m not a complete novice.

This is the twelfth edition of this laboratory manual, which was first published in 1964. During the intervening 40 years, our knowledge of the forces that shape our planet has grown exponentially. The revolutionary theory of plate tectonics is firmly established and provides a framework for learning about Earth's dynamics and the interrelationships between moving tectonic plates, mountain building, the origin of ocean basins, and the evolution of continents. New technology permits us to see Earth from space, image the ocean floor, and measure directly the motion of tectonic plates. We can see in one synoptic view the surface of an entire continent and map ocean currents, temperatures, and vegetation from satellites orbiting in space. During no other period has there been so much exploration and development of new knowledge about Earth. For this reason, we have revised this manual in an attempt to incorporate the new theories and discoveries. The objectives we set forth in the first edition still stand: To give students experience in examining geologic data and formulating hypotheses to explain observed facts. To provide an opportunity to continue laboratory-type work outside of class so students can prepare adequately for lab sessions and review work independently. To give laboratory instructors maximum latitude in their instruction by providing abundant material from which they can select for their own specific objectives. NEW TO THIS EDITION The most important change in this edition is the significant expansion of the introductory sections to each exercise, making the exercises more self-sufficient and less reliant on outside textual references or teacher instruction. You will notice that the manual is longer than in previous editions; this is due to the additional background information. Every exercise has been carefully updated and checked for accuracy. In addition, we have focused on the quality of the questions, rewording and refining them for clarity. Continuing a trend developed over previous editions, we have made extensive use of new computer-generated shaded relief maps, new photographs, and new remote-sensing images. We have, however, retained many of the classic maps and aerial photographs that have served effectively as standard exercises for many years. Rocks and Minerals Most of the photographs of rocks and minerals are the same as those used in the previous edition, but some have been replaced where photographs of better specimens were obtainable. This material is intended as reference material for comparison with laboratory specimens. Photographs, of course, can never replace study of actual hand specimens, but they are useful as a guide and reference in the study of physical properties of minerals and textures of rocks. Maps, Aerial Photographs, and Remote Sensing Images Maps, aerial photographs, and various types of remote sensing images are the fundamental tools of geologic research and are naturally the basic materials in laboratory work of physical geology. The advances in geology during the last several decades have brought about profound changes in the making of maps. As a result of the space program, we now have sophisticated satellite imagery of Earth's surface and radar images that can "see through" clouds and vegetation cover. With remote sensing, we can also see the detailed landscape of the ocean floor and recognize features as small as a submerged boat. We can observe what was once unseen, and we can view the surface features of our planet from exciting new perspectives. Landsat images of Earth can be enhanced by the computer—enlarged, manipulated in tone and color, and even reconstructed to produce stereoscopic images. In addition, most of the United States has been photographed with high-altitude infrared photography, and radar images have been made of large areas of North America. These exciting new images are the basic data for many of the exercises in the twelfth edition. Perhaps the most significant recent advance in mapmaking has been the development of digital shaded relief maps that show the surface features of Earth in relief and remarkable detail. Since graphic representations of Earth's surface features are fundamental to studying and understanding geology, we introduce students to these new maps and images and involve them in the interpretation of the geologic processes revealed by each. Structural Geology We have retained the series of diagrams illustrating the major structural features and their outcrop patterns. Portions of the geologic map of the United States have been retained from previous editions, and new maps, radar images, and computer-enhanced Landsat images have been added in the problems section. Plate Tectonics The theory of plate tectonics has influenced every aspect of geology and has focused our attention on the global aspects of the science. To give students experience in analyzing geologic features on a global scale, we include a large physiographic map of Earth that serves as a basis for exercises in plate tectonics, major structural features of the continents, and geology of the ocean floor. Seismology and Earth's Interior We have retained the exercise in seismology that introduces students to the way geologists study Earth's interior. Problems in seismic stratigraphy and the study of shallow geologic structures give students a chance to work with seismic records. This exercise also includes studies of P and S wave shadow zones so students can see how scientists determine the nature of Earth's deep internal structure. In addition, we include an exercise utilizing interferometric maps, enabling students to study surface deformation associated with earthquakes. Planetary Geology The exploration of the planets has added yet another dimension to the study of Earth because it permits us to compare and contrast the geologic systems of other planetary bodies with those of our planet. We have revised this section to emphasize detailed examples of the new images of Mars, permitting us to see features never seen before. The study of other planetary bodies serves as contrasts to the geologic systems on Earth.

Had to get book for college class. Came in described condition.

Very Good!

The lab manual itself is fine, except that it was the 7th edition that was shipped. I was looking for the 12th edition and this was listed as a used copy of the 12th edition. I had to come back and order a real 12th edition from the other used texts, in order to have the version in use by the students I am working with.

This is the longest most technical book I have ever seen without any kind of index. Whoever thought that was alright for a textbook should have to go back to school and try to use it. The illustrations are useful but difficult to find without an index.

Great Book. I needed it for a class and it was user friendly, easy to understand, well laid out and all in all a good book.

Correct book, just did not use it often in class. Great condition.

Rough around the edges but still works great. arrived on time and does great for what I need it for.
