About the Author

Hilary Mantel is an English writer whose work includes personal memoirs, short stories, and historical fiction. She has twice been awarded the Booker Prize, the first for the 2009 novel Wolf Hall, a fictional account of Thomas Cromwell's rise to power in the court of Henry VIII, and the second for the 2012 novel Bring Up the Bodies, the second installment of the Cromwell trilogy. If you are eager for **the next book by Hilary Mantel!**, this is probably not what you think it is.The first in a series of publications by the Frick Collection, each focusing on a masterwork from their collection, it is a slim but nicely presented hardback that opens with a 7-page essay by Mantel, and then continues to the art curator's scholarly study of the Holbein painting of Sir Thomas More in the Frick Collection. The primary focus of the book is thus this painting. and Mantel's is a short foreword on More himself.The study of the painting is quite well-done, with many good reproductions of both the More portrait, numerous other paintings and drawings by Holbein and other contemporary portraits by both Holbein and others. It is very good value for the number of illustrations and focus.. This initial book is on the famous portrait of Sir Thomas More, painted by Hans Holbein, and features a short intro by Hilary Mantel and then Frick curator Xavier F. Salomon's study of the painting itself (Unfortunately for Wolf Hall fans, the diptych in the series refers to the conservation between the two writers, not that of the two Holbeins in the Frick of Sir Thomas More and Thomas Cromwell.)Future publications in the series focus on Johannes Vermeer’s " Mistress and Maid" (curator by Peggy Iacono and director/writer/producer James Ivory), and on a pair of porcelain and gilt-bronze candlesticks by Pierre Gouthière (curator Charlotte Vignon and Edmund de Waal, author of The Hare with Amber Eyes).

This is an elegant, well-illustrated little book. It begins with the painting in question. Then, there is a short “letter” –– or rumination, if you will –– by Hilary Mantel about Sir Thomas More, the man of letters and controversy. Do not expect a hagiography. Nor should you expect a plot or the usual ficitonal devices. The letter is thought-provoking in very many ways, but it is not in the same genre as Ms. Mantel’s fiction. It's more of a speculative essay.Fortunately, the book also contains a lengthy essay by Xavier Salomon which explains the link between Thomas More, as an intellectual in England, and Holbein’s mentor Desiderius Erasmus. That understanding is critical to see why Holbein came to paint the More familyIn clear text, Mr. Solomon goes through the history of More’s relationship to Erasmus, Holbein’s early development as an artist in Switzerland and the development of the famous portrait of More as well as a much larger canvas depicting More’s family which was destroyed in a fire. I felt the essay was a superior product, although it was necessarily brief and took the form of a lengthy discussion of the history and provenance of the work .I thought it was a strong beginning to the series and I’m looking forward to future volumes.

Be sure you know it's a short book about an artwork, the part by Hilary Mantel is extremely short at the beginning... so it's not really any kind of "Hilary Mantel book" which was the false assumption we made in purchasing it. My bad, I guess.

If you are a veterinary radiologist or neurologist, or a resident, and you do not yet have this book, your library is now effectively incomplete. This is currently the most comprehensive resource we have to date on this subject and it has been long overdue. My only complaints are that this was not yet written when I was a resident, and my copy did not arrive signed.

I had been searching for a good MRI reference book for quite some time. This book is the most comprehensive guide for MRIs in cats and dogs to date. A bulk of the book focuses on MRI of brain and spinal cord (which is exactly what I wanted), however there are also chapters on MRI of non-neurological structures the head/neck, thorax, abdomen and musculoskeletal system. There is also a nice review of how MRI works in the beginning of the book. The book is nicely organized into categories of congenital/developmental abnormalities and then various disease processes. Dr. Mai amazingly fits everything in here! Not once did I feel like a certain disease was missing from the book. The format is neatly arranged into bullet points with accompanying MRI images. There are also schematic illustrations to help explain certain processes. This book is not merely an imaging book. This book is so comprehensive it can be used to learn about all of the diseases as well. I am a general practitioner with an interest in neurology and am currently pursuing neurology residencies. I am so thankful that this book was published before I entered the field of neurology. Whether you are a general practitioner, radiologist, neurologist or resident in training, I HIGHLY recommend this book!

Overall it’s a good reference book for veterinarians who are interested in MRI.The reason I only gave 4 stars is because the book started falling apart after 1 week of normal usage. I wasn’t going to return it since I have had written my notes in it. As you can see I tried to glue it back together....and it’s not working super well but I am tolerating it.Words of advice...maybe make sure your book is glued together well enough.Otherwise great context. Love the book.

This was just the book i need to help pull me from my slump. Took me a while to be able to actually sit down and read due to life getting in the way but once i finally had a day off with no errands to do, i devoured it.Mackey was a huge reason i couldnt stop reading. He is the total boy any girl should want in her life. He goes above and beyond and its so dang cute!!Lane was also a pleasure to read. Most female leads are really annoying and make you wanna smack them but that wasnt the case with her. She makes mistakes just like anyone but her reactions to them were real and i loved that about her.Every page i read i felt i was there experiencing it first hand instead of reading it. That is how i know the writing is good, when i lift my head up from my book to have to adjust to realizing its not real and im still in my own house.Everything about this book was a pure treasure and i am so glad i picked it up. I had to order a hardcopy just to put on my shelf. The emotions will suck you in as well as just the characters themselves. And the blossoming romance is one that is swoon worthy and will leave a big grin on your face even hours after finishing the last page.

Off Center is a sweet contemporary about Lane an inspiring journalist that's thrown into a sports writer position that she knows nothing about. She knows exactly what she wants and plans to make it happen. She is organized, driven and quirky. All is going according to plan until she meets Mackey and her turns everything she thought she wanted upside down. This is such a sweet story. my only issue is towards the end we are thrown a huge curve ball, and not given anytime to adjust to this information. I feel like this big event was just brushed over, which was disappointing. I don't want to spoil anything but it left me with unanswered questions, which I hate. Overall Off Center is a sweet story about a girl going after her dreams. I really enjoyed it.

Another quick read from the Varsity Girlfriends series. I thought it was interesting that this book was set around the same time as the first book so events that happened in the first book were happening during this story. I wasn't really expecting that. I thought this would be set after the first book and you would hear about the couple that got together at the end of the first one. It was still interesting how it was written.Honestly this is definitely a basketball story and I am not to into sports so I was skimming paragraphs sometimes when they were talking about basketball. I loved the characters though and that you were given a different point of view about some of the characters so you would see them in a different but better light. I hope Anderson gets his own story eventually so you can see him in a different light and hope that he doesn't stay a jerk. I liked Mackey as a person/character. I kinda thought this story went a little fast though because Lane and Mackey seemed to not know each other in the beginning and Lane was supposed to end up with another guy. Then her article for the school paper brought her and Mackey closer together. This was also kind of a sad story so things were happening to more characters than just the main character. I thought it was kinda interesting though how Mackey didn't mention the article about Jillie or anything to do with her even though it was clearly something happening in Lane's life and was affecting her.I enjoyed this book though and was able to read it in about a day. I'm curious to see what happens in the rest of the series and who ends up with who. I'm glad I was able to get an early copy of this for my honest review.

I received a free copy of this book and I am giving my honest review. I really enjoyed this book. I felt like the main character, Lane, was very likeable and funny. Although it was mostly lighthearted, there were some serious matters discussed, which brought out some real emotions, but it was an overall happy read.I would recommend this book and the series in general. I can't wait for the next book.

This is one of those stories you don't want to miss. I was hooked from the very beginning and I couldn't tear my eyes away till the very end. She thought she was on track for the plans she had in mind. However, life doesn't always go according to plan and she had to learn that. This was a cute story and I definitely look forward to reading more books by this author.I received an arc and i am voluntarily leaving a review.

Having never read anything by this author I primarily picked this box set because it was free and the cover spoke to me. I was pleasantly surprised as I discovered how much the stories speak of God and how to pray. Each story has characters that are present throughout the set. Inspirational and full of life ~

I loved the Christian perspective, faith and beautiful scenery. The plot was fairly predictable, but interesting. The characters are realistic and endearing.

I enjoyed theses three books. They were clean stories not only of romance but family and trusting God through every circumstance.

Loved all three books. Scenery and characters well presented. Story flowed well with lots of detail, but not too much.

This is by far one of the best books I have read in a long time. It was very well written. It had all the elements of live especially love and faith. It had both ups and downs of real life. I would recommend this book to everyone!!!
