I really enjoyed this book and almost gave it 5 stars. What held me back is that I felt it could have gone a little deeper. At the same time, I appreciated that it didn't get too intense. Lexi has cancer and that could have been drawn out and milked into a lot of drama, but it wasn't. I could really feel Lance's love for Lexi, and it came from a place of respect and friendship, not sex, like you read in so many other books. Another thumbs up for that one. There were a lot of restored relationships, a time of healing and forgiveness. Great book, easy reading. I would read more from this author.
This was a touching love story that really pulled my heart strings. Lexi is a tough, independent woman. She lives close to her tight knit family, and they mean the world to her. When she's faced with a serious health challenge, she pushes everyone away so they won't be hurt. The one person she can't push away is Lance. He's been on love with Lexi since they were kids. They perfect together, but lance has a tough job convincing Lexi she is enough. Great story. Lots of love, heavy on the faith and squeaky clean. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Every motion was experienced in this book. When Lexi was going through her chemo. I learned about the struggle of losing your hair. Everyday, a little bit falls out and it's a constant reminder of you're dealing with. This book is a good reminder of how important family and friends are during times of crisis.Lots of humor, as well. ☺
This was a very good story about an RN, Lexi, whose brother's long time friend has deep feelings for her. She contracts what could be a fatal disease that doesn't diminish Lance's feelings for her one iota. It's a love story that reveals true, patient, tender love. There is nothing tawdry or lewd & tells the tale without foul language. There are of course family members of both parties that are involved which, for the most part, help their relationship develop. Although one comment from Lance's sister is nearly the undoing of their possible relationship. I would have given this a 5 star rating but found the ending came almost too abruptly and would have liked to see it developed a bit further before closure. All in all this was a sweet love story so enjoy it for yourself.
Having read and enjoyed books 1, 3 and 4, I was excited to finally get book 2 in this series. I wasn't disappointed. Lexi is so sweet and helpful even if I did want to tell her a thing or two now and then. But she came around without my help, so that was good. Lance . . . yep, I liked him. And it was fun to get to read more about some of the other characters I had liked in the other books.Though I wouldn't consider this story focused on the romance, there is some in it. Nothing that really made me uncomfortable-a few kisses, some "feelings" about the other person, but nothing lasted very long.I'll be reading this book again.
Having lost a Mom and a brother to cancer, it's not a subject I normally continue reading when it comes up in a book, but the author blended such dynamics of humor and hope into the storyline that I could not stop reading. She shows great talent in making the characters true to life, with all of the complex fears and strengths that people often carry, allowing them to be "real" to us and not just characters on a page. That is a real gift as a writer. I can't wait to read the rest of the series.
Lexi is an ER nurse and loves working there. After having pain in her abdomen for a while, she finally sees her doctor and receives devastating news. Lance is the best friend of Lexi's brother and always had a crush on Lexi. When he hears about her medical diagnosis, Lance does all he can to support her emotionally. Can Lexi trust that Lance's feelings for her will last? This is a wonderful love story of accepting each other for who we are -- the good, the bad and the ugly. It shows how God uses our messes for His good. I only gave this book 4 stars because it ended so abruptly with no real closure.
This is my 3rd book I've read from Melanie's book series. I just can't get enough! Back to the book: She gave details and feelings you would feel and see first hand with family or friends dealing with cancer. It can be frustrating, scary, and hard to be positive when you see a loved one going through it. I was sort of dreading reading it because I read the word Cancer in the summary and knew it would tug on my heart strings. Overrall a good, clean book! The relationship between Lexi and Lance seemed a little rushed to me, but I had to remind myself they grew up together. After finishing this one it made me want to read the next one, so I'm off to read the 3rd book!
